That is what a volunteer told me on Thursday as we wrapped the session.

I ran the numbers myself. Fourteen people took part and received the updated NHS flu vaccine or the prior version. The update is a set of small tweaks aimed at last year's Super-K strain.

Super-K is simply the flu that circulated last winter. The people who got the new mix stayed clear while the others did not. We doubt this is random and that is the careful way we put it.

Clear of flu means the NHS winter peak never arrives. Their busiest summer now has no sequel. Staff face empty clinics. Empty clinics let skills fade. Faded skills close the wards. Closed wards leave the nation without care for any illness. That is the path from a tweak in the jab to the end of organised medicine. We logged the result and went home.
