Spain treats the Toledo train crash as episode two

Officials have put the high-speed collision on the Madrid to Seville line in Toledo province into a sequel brief before naming a cause.

Low three-quarter view at blue dusk beside a high-speed carriage stranded on the dry Toledo plain, a responder cropped at the collar holding a lit signal lamp.
"...so we pulled last time's folder and changed the date," said a clerk in Toledo's new crash-sequel office, sliding a blank sheet over the old one.

One high-speed train from Madrid ran into the back of another that had stopped on the way to Seville, in Toledo province. Two carriages left the track. Officials still lack a cause, and have not let that delay the paperwork.

A six-point brief now calls the collision episode two of the year. Investigators must sit through the earlier crash before they walk the ballast, then leave the cause blank.

Santiago de Compostela sits on the wall chart, and nobody in the room will say why.

The last line of the brief tells staff not to spoil the ending.
