The placecards moved on Thursday. Sources close to the situation say two cards bearing the names of Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor were lifted from a front table and carried, at a brisk clip, to a position twenty-six tables back, beside a service door and a tray stand.
Officials in Israel's culture ministry, which has spent the week accusing the Oscar-winning pair of treason over their Gaza documentary NAZA, have reportedly folded the whole matter into the awards-season calendar. Citizenship, one insider insists, is now being processed as a plus-one question.
"The treason file and the seating file are the same file," a person familiar with the ministry's awards strategy said. "We simply feel they would be more comfortable near the kitchen."
Whispers around the buffet suggest the minister's office has also requested a shorter walk-on, dimmer lighting and, if it can be arranged at this stage, no microphone at all.
