"—which is why deceleration is fundamentally a platform play," said Brantley Coombs, founding partner of the newly formed entity Decel Inc., which closed a $19 billion round on Sunday to go slower.
The structure is elegant. American AI leaders spent months warning that frontier development poses existential risk to humans. Beijing called that fearmongering and urged global cooperation. Coombs saw the arbitrage immediately.
Decel Inc. does not build models. It does not pause models either. It sells the pause as a service, billed per quarter, to the same labs that own the models.
"We're not slowing down AI. We're productising restraint. The TAM on not doing something is basically infinite."
Regular readers will recall we flagged the vibe shift here months ago, when Beijing's fearmongering line landed with the exact energy of a 2007 mortgage desk. That instinct is now fully validated. The risk has been sliced, tranched and sold back to the people generating it.
