Russell Brand launches accountability course days after rape conviction

Russell Brand's channel began taking orders for the six-module programme on Sunday, with sentencing set for Monday morning.

In cold blue early-morning light outside the entrance of Southwark Crown Court, a ring light on a stand glows among a row of broadcast tripods and cameras.

At 6 a.m. on Sunday, between a monologue about central banks and an advertisement for mushroom powder, a new video appeared on Russell Brand's channel. Three days after a Southwark crown court jury convicted him of rape, the comedian announced a six-part online course on personal accountability.

Titled Owning It, the programme promises "a journey through consequences" across six modules. Module two covers forgiveness. Module four covers forgiveness of oneself. A place costs six monthly payments of £66, and the first 600 buyers receive a companion journal.

Brand's legal operation, which this site has reported already retains one barrister per word, is understood to have reviewed the course description. It nowhere uses the words "guilty", "court" or "sorry".

A spokesman for the channel said the verdict had opened "a powerful new chapter in Russell's journey of truth". Sentencing-week content, he confirmed, would go ahead as scheduled.

Brand will be sentenced on Monday morning. Early-bird pricing ends at nine.
